What travel documents do I need?

How do I get to Wakefield?
We are organizing transportation on Tuesday. We plan to pick you up from the airport, the train station, or your hotel downtown. 

How will I get back to Ottawa after the event?
We will provide transportation to downtown Ottawa for everyone on Friday afternoon. We may be able to arrange airport dropoffs at that time.

 

Questions (and Answers) About Accommodation

  
Do I need to find my own accommodation?
We are providing a hotel room at the Wakefield Inn for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night. You might want to stay in Ottawa for a few days before or after the event.

Where should I stay in Ottawa?
Ottawa has many excellent hotels, guesthouses, and airbnbs. We secured a group rate of $159 plus taxes per night at Cartier Place Suite Hotel for 3 nights before and after our event. Phone to make your reservations and mention SSEY2023 (before) or  Science and STEM (after).

What about meals?
We are providing all meals from Tuesday's light supper through to Friday's lunch, with the exception of one dinner where you will be free to explore the fantastic restaurants of Wakefield.

What if I bring a travel companion?
Your travel companion is welcome to stay with you in Wakefield. There will be no extra cost for sharing your room, but you will be expected to pay for all additional costs (e.g., food, beverages) incurred by your guest.

What kinds of things are there to do in Wakefield?
Much of your time will be organized as part of the event, but you will have some free time to explore the town and its surroundings. See wakefieldmill.com/experiences and destinationwakefield.com for some ideas.

What kinds of things are there to do in Ottawa?
Ottawa is known as a city of museums, and it has many other great places to explore. To get your planning started, visit ottawatourism.ca/en/see-and-do

What suggestions do you have for sightseeing before or after the event?

You may want to fly in or out of Toronto and make a side trip to Niagara Falls - they are truly amazing! Montreal is a possible day or overnight trip by train: viarail.ca/en/plan
